Michel Tournier, Past and Present: An Interview with the Author

Mairi Maclean

School of European Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, University of the West of England, Bristol BS16 1QY, United Kingdom

This interview with Michel Tournier, which is preceded by an introduction, is distinguished from others by a new sense of perspective, as Tournier considers his work, past and present. He recounts fresh anecdotes, characterised by his sense of the grotesque, from his years spent as a student in Tübingen. He discusses his current literary projects and plans for the future, conscious of encroaching mortality, and reads from a recent contribution to his village journal.

Key Words: Tournier, Michel; Interview; Germany; Mortality; Grotesque; Vampirism
